I just took out my honey and oats soap from their mold today. I want to make another batch of soap, but I am running low on coconut oil and don’t have enough for another batch. I have to go get some more!! I really wanted to make a lemon soap and/or a lavender soap today. Then, I’d have two more batches of soap. When I get a good amount of soap, I will be able to sell it online! hopefully that will happen soon! I still haven’t figured out what my new name for my company will be called. Maybe I won’t come up with a new name. I came up with a metaphor for soap yesturday! Lush is like the whole foods of soap. It is the big company that everyone knows about. The smaller soap busnesses are the farmer’s markets. The both sell the same stuff, just one is more well known then the rest. I also found a really good soap website that has encouraged me to keep coming making soap! It’s called Soaptopia(google it!). They have really cool looking soap and wonderful ideas for scents and such. I really wish i could sell soap like they do on my website. Now I have to go get some coconut oil now, but no one is home except me and my older brother(who can’t drive me cause he only has his permit). hmpf!

I had originally called my soap making business “Hannah’s Sunny Soaps”, but just now i googled the name to find so many soap companys called that. I’m not sure what to call my company now that a bunch of other companies names our sunny soaps. Hmmm…

I am doing nothing on this beautiful friday! Well, after watching The Tyra show, Oprah, and the oh-so annoying Keeping Up With the Kardasians, i decided to make a batch of soap! I haven’t made one in a VERY long time, so I thought since i am doing nothing today i’d just make a quick batch of soap! This means the soap will be ready to take out of the mold on sunday! and then I can make another batch(if I so please). I am making honey and oats soap. I couldn’t find any regular oats(the kind you make oatmeal with) because my mom used all of it for gronola, so i decided to use some steel cut oats, which is more seedy than regular oats. My dad keeps a bunch of steel oats lying around, so i thought this would be a perfect way to use them! I am placing them on the top of my soap, so one side of the soap is cleansing and the other side is exfoliating. smart right? Well, I am currently checking the tempuratures, waiting until they are both the same, and then I can mix them together and WELLA! I have to just wait for them trace! Okay, have to get back to my soap!

I love making soap, but will I ever be able to sell it? I haven’t made a batch of soap in over 2 weeks! It just makes me wonder if anything with ever become of all the boxes of soap in my room.

So, I guess I will start my blog off by talking a little bit about my soap making experience. I have made 4 soap batches so far. My first batch, was just plain. My second batch I experimented with scents and made a lemon, geranium, rosemary soap. My 3rd batch I experimented with color and made a light blue soap with “sea mist” as a scent(sea mist as a scent is created with bergamont, ylang ylang, and peppermint but I’ll talk about scents later on). My 4th batch was hand-milled soap instead of my usual lye soap. Hand milled soap is melted soap/soap shavings. I cut my 3rd batch to soon, making it crumble because it was hardened enough, so i used the crumbles and melted them down, added water as needed(to make sure the soap doesn’t burn in the pot) and now I have hand milled soap. It might seem like I must of studied soap or something! Well, I got a book called “soap and scent” which defiantly helped me learn so much about making cold-processed soap! If you are really interested in soap making, you should defiantly take at least a look at this book! I was trying to find a place to sell my soap. I contacted my local farmer’s market but they said “they don’t except crafts”. So, hopefully I’ll be able to find SOME place to sell all this soap of mine. This website was created to be a online journal for me to share my experience with soap, and share with you soap recipes/knowledge/skills/tips/tricks and maybe even someday i will be able to share my homemade soap with you! That’s right, someday I hope to sell my soap online to whoever would want it!
Ta Ta for now!
